Located in Alexander Valley in the heart of Sonoma wine country, Jordan is a family-owned winery focusing on three Old World style wines made in the New World, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, and sparkling wine. The winery has been producing popular and well-received wines since 1972 in their beautiful California wine château.

Wines From Jordan

Jordan concentrates on three types of wine, two varietals and a sparkling cuvée.

Cabernet Sauvignon

Jordan's philosophy in producing its Cabernet Sauvignon wines is to create wines made in the style of Old World Bordeaux red wines. The winery strives to make the wines food-friendly and elegant. Many of these wines are structured with tannins that allow them to age and soften. While the wines are made primarily with Cabernet Sauvignon in order to meet varietal labeling requirements, Jordan also blends in other Bordeaux grape varietals such as Merlot, Petit Verdot, and Malbec. The wine is moderately priced, releasing at around $60 per bottle. Critics tend to like this wine. Recent vintages have received ratings in the low-90 point range from Wine Enthusiast.

Chardonnay

Chardonnay grows exceptionally well in Sonoma. Jordan produces its Chardonnays in a Burgundian wine style from grapes grown in the Russian River Valley. The wines are 100% Chardonnay grapes aged on the lees (sur lie) for five weeks. It is then aged 6 months in 100% new French oak. The result is a creamy white wine with notes of lemon and pears and a nice hint of vanilla. Cost at release is usually around $35 per bottle, and the wine has been well received by critics and consistently good. Recent vintages have received 90 to 92 point ratings from critics such as Wine Enthusiast and Wine Spectator.

Jordan Cuvée

Jordan Cuvée is a non-vintage Champagne made through a partnership between Jordan and the French Champagne producer AR Lenoble. Because the grapes are grown in Champagne, France, it is legally allowed to be called Champagne, but Jordan sells the sparkling wine exclusively at its winery in Sonoma County. It's made with a combination of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Mineur grapes grown on AR Le Noble's Grand Cru and Premier Cru vineyards and aged for four years in oak barrels. It sells for around $40 per bottle, and you can expect apple and citrus flavors with toasty hints of brioche.

Visiting Jordan's Wine Château

Jordan Estate sits in the Alexander Valley in the heart of Sonoma County. It is a 1,200 acre wine estate filled with vineyards, olive trees, grazing pastures, and nature preserves. The château is designed to look like a French country manor similar to a Bordeaux wine château. The 58,000 square foot building completed construction in 1976, and it has been the home to Jordan's winemaking and hospitality efforts ever since. Along with wine tasting and food experiences, guests to the château can also stay in one of the three luxuriously appointed guest suites.
